Nancy Gerber
Nancy Gerber
Three years ago, Nancy was diagnosed and treated for stage-four uterine cancer. At the time, Nancy was covered under Washington State's Basic Health plan. Although she had coverage at the time of her surgery and chemotherapy, she has since lost coverage and is unable to pay for valuable follow-up care.
Nancy runs a small child care service out of her home, but is unable to provide health coverage for herself or for her employees. She notes that she has lost several employees due to her inability to provide coverage through her business and worries about retaining employees in the future. While Nancy is concerned about her own health, she is also worried about the future of her business.
Given the advanced stage of the cancer when diagnosed, there is a concern that the cancer will come back. Nancy worries everyday that her cancer may return, and without health insurance coverage to pay for treatment, the children under her care will also suffer.
