SHADAC State Health Access Profile

The State Health Access Profile is a comprehensive profile of access to health care in the states that goes beyond indicators of health insurance coverage. SHADAC researchers identified and assembled indicators that measure state resources that enable access to health care for residents.

Many sources of data on health care access exist. However, the State Health Access Profile includes 14 measures that have underpinnings in theoretical or empirical literature; are readily available in the 50 states and the District of Columbia; and are likely to be provided consistently in the future.

Of the 14 measures documented by SHADAC, four are presented here with the others available in the state detail pages.

The Access Profile was published in 2004 (Edition I) and updated in December of 2007 (Edition II).
